Questing through forests isn’t quite as easy when you’re three inches tall. That doesn’t stop Arthur from dragging bringing Merlin along, though!
“Arthur! Arthur, I’ve finished—come and see!”
Arthur sighed at the report he was supposed to be reading but went to see what Merlin was shouting about, anyway, edging into Merlin’s corner of their chambers a little warily. He found the sorcerer standing beside a canvas which he’d obviously just finished painting, his skin as splashed with colour as the paper. There were two other canvases already drying behind him, both painted in Camelot’s bright red and gold, its dragon roaring in the center in an exact replica of the stitching on the cloaks the knights wore. Merlin beamed as Arthur looked at them, obviously proud of his work.
“Do you like them? They’re for you, if you want them.”
Arthur smiled, thumbing away a splotch of gold from Merlin’s cheek.
“They’re great. Thank you, Merlin,” he said, nodding approvingly at Merlin’s paintings. Merlin beamed.
“You’re welcome,” he replied, and leaned in for a quick kiss. Arthur chased him when he pulled away, drawing it out for as long as possible, and Merlin giggled when they broke apart.
“What?” Arthur asked, a little disgruntled. Merlin smiled sheepishly.
“You’ve got paint, just—there,” he said, swiping away the gold swatch from the corner of Arthur’s mouth. ”Sorry.”
Arthur rolled his eyes, but there was no mistaking the fondness in his voice when he murmured, ”Idiot.”
